Donn's Mascot Cannibal Mug

Long Lost and Recreated

Donn’s Mascot Cannibal

Own a piece of tiki history: a mug inspired by Donn’s legendary mascot cannibal.

As Donn was circling the globe in the 1920s, he found the “cannibal trio” carvings in Bora Bora. He brought them home and those carvings became a signature of his Cannibal bar in Chicago in 1940. The set of three cannibals was behind the bar, and in carved support posts.

A very large version of one of the cannibals was created exclusively for Donn.

That carving first appears after the war in 1946 at his Encino home. When he pulled up stakes and moved to Hawaii to start over, the “mascot” cannibal traveled with him.

There are exactly seven photos of this carving known. Six of them are only found in Donn’s personal archive, virtually unknown until now.

Though the original carving has vanished, its spirit lives on in this faithful mug recreation by Eekum Bookum. The mug is being created now and should be ready to ship in early April.
